Sir Edmund Percival Hillary (July 20th, 1919 – January 11th, 2008) was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist. Along with Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, Hillary became one of the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest.
