Jeffery Hubble Senior (cir. 1940s - October 22nd, 2017) was a local produce farmer from Sloth's Pit, Wisconsin. Hubble had secretly dabbled with the occult in his youth, notably learning Sarkic carnomancy.
In 1969, Hubble conspired with that year's Douglas County Fair Organization Committee in a bid for eternal youth. Hubble was the only member of the committee to see until the end of the year, surviving another five decades until the Autumn's return.
History[]
Early Life and Sarkicism[]
Jeffery Hubble was born in -- or at least grew up in -- the town of Sloth's Pit, Wisconsin. Around the 1950s and '60s, Hubble married and had two children with his wife; Jeffery Jr. and Eliza. After the birth of his second child, the senior Hubble was diagnosed with lung cancer, a terminal diagnosis that left the new father deeply distraught.
As a citizen of the "magical" town of Sloth's Pit, Hubble told himself that there was a magic to cure his cancer. In his search for the cure, Hubble found access to the Wanderers' Library, where he discovered a Neo-Sarkic flesh crafter. The Sarkic accepted Hubble's pleas on the condition that the Wisconsinite pledge himself to Sarkicism, and undergo an apprenticeship for the next seven years. Hubble accepted the offer, and began his teachings as a carnomancer.
After seven years, and once all of Hubble's cancerous lung cells had been replaced with several Sarkic flesh grafts and body modifications, the flesh crafter offered the farmer-turned-carnomancer a position in his House as an Orin. Having grown disheartened by the grim intricacies of Sarkic culture, Hubble declined the offer and returned to work Hubble Farms full-time. At some point between the start of his apprenticeship and October of 1969, Hubble killed twelve people and buried them his fields, arranging the corpses in a ritual to promote bountiful harvests.
The Black Autumn[]
In October of 1969, Sloth's Pit's mayor, Clive Carter, brought Hubble Sr. onto the Douglas County Fair Organization Committee alongside Richard Gideon and Zachary Allen. On the committee, Hubble was introduced to Mavra Ismeria, a witch that Gideon had summoned to assist them in staving death. Initially compliant with the scheme, Hubble grew reluctant once he learned of the committee's intentions to sacrifice children to Ismeria for their youth.
During his work for Gideon, Hubble was approached by an enigmatic organization (one that had time-travel technology and was unaffiliated with neither the SCP Foundation nor the Chaos Insurgency). The benefactors informed the Granola Sarkic on his future importance in containing Ismeria, and offered their services in restoring him from the mutations the farmer had grown to hate. After Gideon called for the senior Hubble to present his daughter, Eliza, as tribute to Ismeria, Jeffery took up the offer and began to conspire against his former co-conspirators. On October 26th, Jeffery joined the three men for a group photograph at that year's fairground, taken by Ismeria.
On October 28th, Hubble arrived at Gideon's manor, with a homunculus he made in his daughter's image. After joining the decoy with the almost twenty other children collected for sacrifice to Ismeria, Hubble Sr. noted as Gideon announced two unwanted guests; Blake and Ruby Williams, two Sigma-10 agents who eavesdropped after they fell through a temporal anomaly. Hubble took it upon himself to deal with the Williams twins for his co-conspirators, offering for the squeamish Carter to wait for him at the Black Garden Pub. Alone with the Williams, Hubble explained what he could without causing a time paradox before sealing the two agents in Sarkic amber, perfectly preserved in the manor's basement where they would be recovered in exactly forty-eight years. Arriving at the Black Garden Pub, Hubble intercepted and killed Carter, burying him among the twelve other bodies in his field. With carnomancy fueled by the now-thirteen cadavers, Hubble summoned a colossal pumpkin to confine Ismeria's form in for the years to come.
The next day, Hubble loaded the resilient "Gourdon" onto the flatbed of his 1956 GMC pickup truck, and transported the pumpkin prison to the Equinox Fairgrounds. Gourdon, after breaking the scale that was on-location and requiring a more durable replacement to be imported from Duluth, earned Hubble the title of having grown the largest pumpkin in Wisconsin. After a devastating incident at the fairgrounds on Hallowe'en night, Hubble survived alongside Allen, and joined Sloth's Pit in abandoning Equinox Ridge. During Allen's accusations for the abduction of nineteen children, Hubble Sr. and his family avoided suspicions well after the trial's completion that November.
A Simple Farmer[]
By the winter of 1970, the overwhelming majority of Hubble's Sarkic modifications had been removed, including his akuloth. Hubble visited The Bottomless Pit to meet up with Herman Fuller, who was accompanied by his associates Manny and Veronica. Hubble traded the akuloth with the immortality-hunting Fuller, giving the Sarkic symbiote in exchange for an ingot of pure beryllium-bronze, hand-crafted and blessed by a Mekhanite Priest, prime for cleansing Hubble of any lingering Sarkic forces.
After the Camp Krakkow incident and S&C Plastics' arrival to Sloth's Pit in the late 1970s, Hubble avoided attention from the Foundation during their survey of all anomalous humans in the town, and was never suspected of being a retired Sarkic and serial killer. Hubble continued to participate with the community, hosting pumpkin patches on his farm and attending futures committees such as the one for the 1981 Douglas County Fair. At some point, Hubble Sr. also became a grandfather through his son, and had purchased a new Ford pickup truck to replace the GMC lost under Gourdon's girth.
Bloody Demise[]
In 2017, Jeffery Hubble Sr. had grown into an elderly man, yet he was still spry and capable of driving his truck. When Mavra broke from her prison that October, Hubble Sr. initially joined his son's family in the evacuation of Sloth's Pit. When his family was safely in Duluth, Hubble returned to Lover's Lane, allegedly retrieving the family dog left behind. While stopping by the farmhouse, Hubble took a slice from one of his daughter in-law's pumpkin pies. Unknown to Hubble, Mavra had disrupted the farm's harvest ritual by seizing the decayed body of Carter, and the corpse of a vampire had corrupted all the gourds on the property. After consuming the contaminated fruit pastry, the elderly Hubble went feral, and mauled his dog in his ill-found vampirism.
On October 22nd, the blood-thirsty Hubble vampire found new blood on the farm; the Foundation researchers Katherine Sinclair, Keith Partridge, and Christopher Hastings were searching the property for him, escorted by agents Carl Ashe and Alexander Carracos. Hubble ambushed Ashe and Hastings in the fields of pumpkins, slaughtering the Sigma-10 operative and chasing after the frightened, blood-covered researcher. When the four surviving Foundation members attempted to run Hubble over with their transport vehicle, the vampire collided with the front grill, totaling the engine block. Hubble attempted to maul Carracos, who had been knocked unconscious by the airbag, but was warded back by the driver's crucifix tattoo.
Retreating to the fields to recover from Holy Anathema, Hubble charged the farmhouse and burst through the kitchen window, where Sinclair and Partridge were inspecting the mutated blood pumpkin left on the counter. The vampire seized the bloody, pulsating fruit, drank the gourd dry, and fell to the ground after Partridge had fired a full clip of bullets into him. The downed Hubble clawed Sinclair before she could drive her knife through his heart, and began to drain her blood through his claws before Partridge threw a handful of white rice; overwhelmed by a vampire's arithmetical instincts, Hubble abandoned the thaumaturgist to organize the grains. As Hubble was distracted by the rice, Sinclair used hemomancy to control her undissolved blood in his body, concentrating it in his heart. Hubble was slain as Sinclair punched him through the chest, piercing his heart from within by reuniting her stolen blood with her fist.
Legacy[]
With Hubble Sr.'s death, Hubble Farms was secured for investigation by the SCP Foundation. The skeletal remains of Hubble's murder victims were exhumed, with Researcher Hastings personally finding what Ismeria had done to Carter's body. Hubble Jr. and his family were questioned on their knowledge of the senior Hubble's crimes.
After the Black Autumn incident was over, Jeffery Hubble Senior was ultimately given a proper funeral; his body was cremated, in accordance to both his final wishes and the Foundation's protocols on the disposal of vampires.
